For those who are interested in sky lanterns, there are a lot of interesting facts regarding them. Flying lanterns have been around for generations and were used for several different things. Today, the Chinese sky lanterns are used to celebrate several occasions from large public events to personal, intimate get togethers. There may be some facts regarding sky lanterns that you are unaware of though. The top ten sky lantern facts are:
1. Sky lanterns are known by several different names including Chinese lanterns, flying lanterns and Chinese Hanging Lanterns . They are used all over the world but are called slightly different variations on the name. 2. All sky lanterns are 100% biodegradable. As the fuel cell burns out an the Chinese lantern drifts to the ground it will not contribute to waste. Instead, once exposed to the elements it will degrade so there is no trace of it left. 3. There is an even more environmentally friendly sky lantern available on the market today. The eco lantern works similarly to the other sky lanterns except the fuel cell is already attached ant it contains no wire. This accomplishes two things: it prevents any accidental injury to animals that may ingest it and it degrades even faster than traditional sky lanterns. It may degrade in as little as a couple weeks. 4. Sky lanterns do not come in just the traditional white colour. You can get coloured Chinese Hanging Lanterns in red, yellow, orange, blue and pink for any occasion. Don’t be afraid to mix and match. You can get any of the colours athttp://www.nightskylanterns.co.uk/sky-lanterns/coloured-traditional-sky-lanterns/prod_9.html. 5. Chinese lanterns have a particular shape most people are familiar with but there are other shapes and sizes that sky lanterns come in. You can purchase cylindrical Chinese Hanging Lanterns , large flying lanterns and even a mega cube flying lantern. For even more fun you can choose a novelty shape in a heart, football or smiley face such as the ones found athttp://www.nightskylanterns.co.uk/novelty-sky-lanterns/cat_21.html. 6. Chinese lanterns are safe for use and if a few precautions are taken will not harm anyone or cause any damage. You should, however, make sure to supervise the launching of sky lanterns if they will be used with children. 7. Sky lanterns have been the cause of a few UFO sightings. When the Chinese lanterns take to the sky the emit a warm glow that can be seen for many kilometres. They will soar in the air until the fuel cell burns out at which time it will fizzle and go out. This has been reported a few times as a UFO sighting from those who did not know it was a flying paper lantern. 8. There are packages available for those who want to use sky lanterns for their large event or get together. The packages are tailored to suit the occasion best. 9. Chinese lanterns were first used as a means of alerting troops in times of warfare. They evolved to be used by the general public as a means to send a prayer to the heavens and to celebrate. 10. Sky lanterns are ideal for any occasion. They are often used in weddings but can also be used for birthdays, business grand openings or just for fun. Sky lantern use is limited only by your imagination.
