There are some strange holidays that people come up with. While not “official” or sanctioned holidays they are fun to participate in and today is no different. UK group Duran Duran was especially popular in the 1980’s with some smash hits but they still go strong today with a more mature sound. Whether you enjoyed them back in the day or are still a fan today, you can celebrate their accomplishments during Duran Duran Appreciation Day. Today for Duran Duran Appreciation Day launch some sky lanterns and have a retro 80’s party with friends.

Break out the leg warmers, granny boots tons of accessories, jams and parachute pants and put Duran Duran on the stereo. Don’t forget the big hair for both guys and girls! Duran Duran was an 80’s icon, streaming out smash hits continually. In addition, they were a staple on MTV, churning out video after video to become cutting edge leaders in an industry that was just starting to gain momentum. Even today they have fans from around the world who not only enjoy their 80’s pop tunes but their more recent accomplishments also. What band is better deserving of an appreciation day than Duran Duran?

When you get together for Duran Duran Appreciation Day another great accessory is a glow stick. Glow stick necklaces and bracelets can be worn to really accent the bright, colourful fashions of the 80’s. The glow will add some pizzazz to the clothes and they are a lot of fun. Glow stick bracelets are perfect for wearing around wrists and ankles. Bunch them together for a truly 80’ look. Dance around to Duran Duran and enjoy drinks sipped with glow stick straws. Put some Duran Duran favourites on the stereo such as Planet Earth, Girls on Film, Hungry Like the Wolf, Rio, Save a Prayer, The Reflex, Notorious and more. They had 14 hits on the UK top 10 and nearly all their albums peaked in the top ten on the UK charts.

So, even if you are not a fan of the 80’s or were even around then, you are likely familiar with their work. They were pop icons and their influence in video and arena concerts is still seen today. There’s no better way to have an excuse to throw a party and dance to some great 80’s pop music than to have a get together on Duran Duran appreciation Day. To end the evening, send up some sky lanterns so that you will have the sky ablaze with the glow from the sky lanterns.

You can even personalise the sky lanterns. You can take sharpie markers and have each person in attendance write their favourite Duran Duran song on the sky lantern. Then you can light them and send them up one at a time in commemoration of the legacy Duran Duran left. They are a great addition to any party and the coloured sky lanternsare particularly well suited for Duran Duran Appreciation Day.
